About the Job
An experienced Diesel Truck Mechanic will perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on heavy-duty trucks and trailers. The role involves working with diesel engines, brake systems, suspensions, transmissions, and other mechanical components to keep commercial vehicles operating safely and efficiently. The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced shop environment, utilizing modern diagnostic equipment and repair tools while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and customer service.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, suspension systems, steering components, and air brake systems.
Perform preventive maintenance, including oil changes, brake repairs, inspections, and fluid services.
Conduct truck and trailer wheel alignments to manufacturer specifications.
Utilize diagnostic equipment, schematics, and technical manuals to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.
Repair and maintain tractor-trailers, heavy-duty trucks, and other commercial equipment.
Operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and soldering tools for repairs and fabrication work.
Inspect completed repairs to ensure safety, quality, and compliance with DOT and industry standards.
Maintain accurate service records, repair orders, and maintenance documentation.
Collaborate with service advisors and team members to complete repairs efficiently.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Qualifications :
Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, or Heavy-Duty Truck Technician.
High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training in Diesel Technology preferred.
Valid California driver's license required; CDL is a plus.
ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Certification is preferred but not required.
Skills:
Strong diesel engine diagnostic and repair skills.
Experience with Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Paccar, Volvo, or similar diesel engines.
Knowledge of transmissions, hydraulics, suspension, HVAC, electrical systems, and air brake systems.
Proficiency in welding, fabrication, and the use of diagnostic equipment.
Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
