Overview
Registered Nurse – Observation Unit (Travel) in Rochester, NY. Specialty: Observation Unit. Start date: 08/03/2026. Duration: 13 weeks. Weekly pay: $2,026–$2,150. Shift: 3x12-hour shifts. Setting: fast-paced observation unit caring for adult patients needing observation to determine whether admission is warranted or safe discharge. The unit operates with 24/7 provider coverage and handles a high patient turnover, including a mix of emergency observation and admitted boarding patients. Telemetry is routinely used to monitor patients as part of standard care.

Responsibilities
- Provide direct bedside nursing care for adult patients in the observation unit, including ongoing assessment and documentation
- Monitor vitals, telemetry data, and patient status; identify changes and escalate to the provider as needed
- Administer medications and manage IV therapies according to orders; perform basic procedures as appropriate
- Collaborate with a 24/7 provider coverage team and multidisciplinary care partners to determine disposition (observation vs. admission vs. discharge)
- Ensure patient safety, pain management, and prevention of falls; educate patients and families about care plans and expected timelines
- Document care accurately in the electronic health record and communicate changes to the care team promptly

Requirements
- NY Registered Nurse license (active)
- Minimum of 2 years Med/Surg experience
- Telemetry experience
- BLS certification (American Heart Association)
- ACLS certification (American Heart Association)
- NIHSS certification required
