Job Description

Position Summary:

We are seeking a talented medicinal chemist with excellent communication and collaboration skills and demonstrated experience working collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams (spanning chemistry, biology, pharmacology, DMPK and toxicology). The successful candidate will lead from the lab and be a key driver of medicinal chemistry strategy and a critical contributor to projects, (with opportunities for project leadership), from inception through clinical candidate nomination. Applicants should be well versed in drug design concepts and have demonstrated individual and team impact on small molecule Hit to Lead and Lead Optimization efforts.

Role and responsibility

Collaborate with a senior Project Lead to formulate medicinal chemistry strategy and then independently manage the execution of this strategy including overseeing the internal and external chemistry teams. Projects in scope for this role will typically initiate at the transition from hit validation into hit to lead and progress to Development Candidate (DC) nomination.

• Contribute intellectually to chemistry project teams through data analysis, compound designs to address key multiparametric optimization challenges in addition to synthetic troubleshooting and optimization
• Leading from the bench – candidate will spend a portion of their time in the lab enabling and impacting project progression by developing challenging chemistry that can be transferred to external partners
• Manage external chemistry CRO resources
• Selects compounds for progression through the assay flowchart
• Work within mandated laboratory safety policies and maintain an electronic notebook to company standards.
• Contribute to patent filings, publications and presentations
• Collaborate with other line functions (biology, pharmacology, biochemistry, DMPK, etc) to design key experiments and to set project goals and strategies.
• Present project updates to key stakeholders including chemistry and company leadership

Required qualifications:

• PhD in organic chemistry, or related field with 5+ years, MS with 8+ years or BS with 11+ years of relevant experience
• High level of creativity and productivity with strong synthetic problem-solving skills, synthetic methods and reactions mechanisms are required.
• Demonstrated expertise in modern methods and technologies in synthetic organic chemistry
• Demonstrated expertise in drug design to improve compound affinity, drug-likeness and DMPK/safety properties
• Familiarity with structure and ligand based drug design concepts
• Excellent communication skills
