GD Resources LLC is a federal government contractor committed to delivering highly qualified healthcare professionals in support of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and other federal agencies. We are seeking experienced Sterile Processing Technicians (Medical Supply Technicians Sterile Processing) to provide critical support to the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) at the Fresno VA Health Care System.
This position plays a vital role in ensuring the safe reprocessing, sterilization, tracking, and distribution of reusable medical equipment (RME) used throughout the medical center. The selected candidate will work in a fast-paced healthcare environment while maintaining strict compliance with Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) policies, national industry standards, and infection prevention practices.
Position SummaryThe Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, tracking, and distribution of reusable medical equipment and surgical instrumentation. The technician will ensure all equipment is processed safely and effectively in accordance with applicable federal regulations, Veterans Affairs directives, Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) standards, Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) guidelines, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements, and Manufacturer Instructions for Use (MIFU).
Successful candidates must possess excellent attention to detail, a strong commitment to patient safety, and the ability to work collaboratively in a highly regulated healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities DecontaminationPerform cleaning and decontamination of reusable medical equipment and surgical instruments using approved manual and automated processes.
Follow AAMI, AORN, FDA, OSHA, VA, and Manufacturer Instructions for Use (MIFU) requirements.
Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and infection control procedures.
Inspect instruments for biological residue, contamination, corrosion, damage, excessive wear, missing components, and proper functionality.
Prevent cross-contamination through adherence to established sterile processing protocols.
Assemble surgical instrument trays, procedure sets, and reusable medical equipment.
Inspect instruments for staining, pitting, rust, cracking, sharpness, alignment, and functionality.
Package and label instruments using approved sterilization materials and techniques.
Ensure packaging integrity and accuracy before sterilization.
Verify all instrument sets are complete and comply with manufacturer specifications.
Operate sterilization equipment, including steam sterilizers (autoclaves), V-PRO sterilization systems, automated washers, ultrasonic cleaners, and related processing equipment.
Monitor sterilization cycles and verify chemical and biological indicators.
Maintain complete documentation of sterilization activities.
Ensure all sterilization processes meet applicable regulatory and quality standards.
Maintain accurate documentation for decontamination, sterilization, equipment testing, instrument tracking, and distribution activities.
Utilize VA-approved tracking systems, including CensiTrac and other authorized electronic systems.
Assist with inventory management, case cart preparation, storage, and distribution of sterile supplies.
Report damaged or malfunctioning instruments and equipment according to facility procedures.
Transport clean and contaminated reusable medical equipment throughout the medical center.
Assist in maintaining organized sterile storage areas and inventory levels.
Support workflow efficiency within Sterile Processing Service operations.
Assist with orientation and operational training of newly assigned sterile processing personnel when requested.
Candidates must possess:
A minimum of two (2) years of Sterile Processing Service (SPS) experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.
The ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
An active certification from the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) (formerly IAHCSMM).
Preferred qualifications include experience supporting Veterans Affairs Medical Centers, proficiency with electronic instrument tracking systems, and knowledge of complex surgical instrumentation.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesThe successful candidate must demonstrate proficiency in:
Decontamination of reusable medical equipment and complex instrumentation.
Inspection, assembly, and packaging of specialty surgical instrument trays.
Operation of sterilization systems and interpretation of sterilization indicators.
Endoscope reprocessing (when applicable).
Case cart preparation and inventory management.
Equipment operation, maintenance awareness, and basic troubleshooting.
Instrument tracking systems and documentation requirements.
Compliance with AAMI ST79 standards, VA directives, manufacturer instructions, and facility standard operating procedures.
Prior to assignment, candidates must successfully satisfy all applicable federal and facility onboarding requirements, including:
Proof of required immunizations, including MMR, Hepatitis B, Tdap, Varicella, annual Influenza vaccination, and Tuberculosis screening.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Background investigation and drug screening.
Submission of all required employment and credentialing documentation upon request.
Selected personnel will complete all required Veterans Affairs onboarding and security credentialing requirements.
Contract personnel will require authorized access to designated VA information systems, including Microsoft Teams, VA Email, CensiTrac, and VA SharePoint, as necessary to perform assigned duties. Personnel are expected to comply with all VA information security, privacy, and cybersecurity policies.

Services are performed five (5) days per week, eight (8) hours per day . Personnel may be assigned to day, evening, or overnight shifts based on operational requirements. No on-call, weekend, or federal holiday coverage is required.
