Registered Nurse (RN) Emergency Psychiatric Services

Shift: Nights | 7:00 PM 7:00 AM

• Local travelers are accepted but will receive a $10/hour lower local rate .

Position Summary

The Registered Nurse provides direct and indirect nursing care within the Emergency Psychiatric Services/Crisis Psychiatric Unit , utilizing the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care. The RN cares for patients ages 5 and older experiencing behavioral health crises, psychiatric illnesses, and, when appropriate, concurrent medical conditions.

Patient Population

• Patients ages 5 years and older .
• Common diagnoses include:
  • Major Depression
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Adjustment Disorders
  • Psychotic Disorders
  • Patients requesting or requiring detoxification
• Some patients may also require medical care in addition to psychiatric treatment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive psychiatric and medical nursing assessments.
• Develop, implement, and update individualized interdisciplinary care plans.
• Administer medications and prescribed treatments.
• Monitor patient status and evaluate treatment outcomes.
• Identify appropriate patient resources and discharge needs.
• Collaborate with psychiatrists, physicians, social workers, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
• Provide compassionate, therapeutic care in a behavioral health setting.
• Utilize crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as appropriate.
• Maintain patient safety while adhering to behavioral health and hospital policies.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.

Experience

• Minimum 1 year of previous mental health nursing experience required.

Licensure

• Current Maine Registered Nurse (RN) License.

Required Certifications

• BLS.
• Current CPI certification (required prior to assignment start).

Skills

• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities.
• Ability to remain calm and make sound clinical decisions under pressure.
• Flexibility to support 24/7 department operations.

Schedule

• Night shift.
• 7:00 PM 7:00 AM .
