Job Summary

Assists recreation program staff in the development, planning, and implementation of recreational, cultural, andeducational programs to ensure availability of activities for Dallas' citizens at the city's recreation centers.

Overview

The Recreation Center Assistant supports and provides assistance for the programs and services offered by the City's recreation facilities. Coordinates logistics and participates in youth services, senior assistance, recreation programs, special events, and other services.

Essential Functions

1 Assists in developing and implementing programs and activities at small or large recreation centers; assists with the implementation of programs, educational opportunities, sports teams, and classes for adults, teens, children, and the general community.

2 Leads recreational activities, demonstrates a variety of sports procedures and techniques, and instructs participants in the rules of various games to ensure enjoyable and safe activities for adults and youth.

3 Assists with after school programs to provide the youth of the community with organized recreational activities

and educational assistance; cleans, maintains, and assists with program logistics to ensure smooth and safe operations.

4 Compiles and maintains records such as attendance reports and reports detailing number of ID cards issued or trash bags sold to enable monitoring of program participation and amount of revenue generated; maintains records of participants, accidents, and materials to keep accurate reports of daily activities.

5 Provides information to participants, and the public regarding the various functions of the recreation center

including the variety of programs and classes offered for the benefit of the community; offers excellent customer service and direction.

6 Performs various administrative tasks on a daily basis to ensure the effective flow of services and offerings; processes registrations and other documents, disburses schedules, answers phones, and sells and issues trash bags and participant ID cards and ensures that funds collected are accounted for daily.

7 Transports youth to various field trips and special events to conduct recreational and educational camping

activities.

8 Instructs participants and enforces the rules, regulations, procedures, and safety precautions of various games or

activities to maintain progression of activities in an orderly fashion.

9 Provides outreach, marketing, distribution of program materials of scheduled programs and events; attends health fairs, special events, and other community events to promote programs; generates calendars, lesson plans, and other marketing materials.

10 Performs any and all other tasks as needed or assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

1 Knowledge of recreation facilities and general programming.

2 Ability to work with children, youth, and adults.

3 Knowledge of sports and general rules.

4 Knowledge of first aid principles and practices.

5 Ability to develop activities and work with a multi-cultural community.

6 Ability to enforce recreation, program, and sporting regulations.

7 Establishing and maintaining effective relationships.

8 Knowledge of strong customer service principles and practices.

9 Communicating effectively orally and in writing.

Experience

None

Licenses and Certifications

1. First Aid/CPR is required within 6 months of employment.

2. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.

Exception: driver’s Licenses are not required for Summer Seasonal Recreation Center Assistant(s), and Out of School Recreation Center Assistant(s).

Education

High School Diploma, GED

Exception for Summer Seasonal Recreation Center Assistant(s):

HSD/GED or Driver’s license is not required for this category of applicants.

Other Requirements

All applicants must be 18 years old or older.

Salary Range

$21.50 - $21.78

The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
