About the role Seeking a detail-oriented QA & Test Engineer to ensure the quality and reliability of PHMSA's modernized data warehouse and reporting solutions. This role focuses on validating data migrations, testing Tableau dashboards, and ensuring system performance meets federal operational needs. The ideal candidate will have experience in functional, integration, and performance testing within data-centric environments. As a QA & Test Engineer, you'll work alongside developers and data engineers to certify that all deliverables meet strict accuracy, consistency, and availability standards.
Job Responsibilities - Develop and execute comprehensive test plans for data warehouse, ETL processes, and Tableau reporting solutions.
- Validate migrated datasets and Tableau dashboards against source OBIEE reports for functional accuracy, consistency, and performance.
- Perform integration, regression, and performance testing across all data flows and reporting environments.
- Thoroughly test failover scenarios and system resilience.
- Document defects, track resolutions, and ensure continuous improvement in solution quality.
- Collaborate with data engineers, BI developers, and federal stakeholders to define testing requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Conduct data integrity checks to ensure transformed datasets meet reporting and operational standards.
- Support testing of AI-driven and automated workflows integrated into the data ecosystem.
- Contribute to user acceptance testing (UAT) and stakeholder readiness assessments.
- Ensure compliance with DOT and federal quality assurance standards, including data security and governance policies.
- Provide detailed test reports and support project documentation related to quality control activities.

Job Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or a related scientific, technical, or functional discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience specialized in software testing.
- Experience testing data migrations, ETL workflows, and BI/reporting solutions (Tableau preferred).
- Strong understanding of SQL and data validation techniques.
- Familiarity with automated testing tools and frameworks for data and API testing.
- Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance requirements in federal IT systems.
- Experience conducting performance and load testing on data systems is desirable.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional technical teams and communicate findings to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience supporting federal IT modernization projects is a plus.
- Clearance: Must be a U.S. Citizen and eligible to obtain DOT Public Trust.
