Job Description

WellSpan Health, a leading regional healthcare system serving South-Central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland, is seeking a Medical Technologist/Point-of-Care professional to join our Laboratory Services team. In this role, you will be a key resource for ensuring safe, accurate, and efficient point-of-care (POC) testing across our hospitals, outpatient centers, and primary care offices. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary clinical teams to support patient-centered care and the advancement of community health. As the Medical Technologist/Point-of-Care, you will oversee and support a broad menu of bedside and near-patient tests, including glucose, coagulation, urinalysis, blood gases, cardiac markers, and rapid infectious disease assays. You will perform and monitor daily quality control, calibration, and maintenance for POC instruments, troubleshoot technical issues, and assist with validation and implementation of new devices and methodologies. Your expertise will help ensure that all POC testing meets the highest standards of accuracy, reliability, and turnaround time. You will provide technical leadership and education to nurses, medical assistants, and other non-laboratory staff who perform POC testing, offering initial training, ongoing competency assessment, and real-time support. Working within WellSpan’s collaborative and inclusive culture, you will partner with pathologists, laboratory leadership, and front-line clinical teams to optimize workflows, enhance test utilization, and solve practical problems that impact patient care. Regulatory compliance is central to this position. You will maintain thorough documentation for CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and other regulatory and accreditation requirements, including instrument logs, QC and calibration records, proficiency testing, lot-to-lot verification, and corrective action reports. You will actively participate in internal audits, inspections, and performance-improvement initiatives, using data trends and root cause analysis to strengthen quality and patient safety. This role also supports the technical infrastructure that allows POC results to flow reliably into the electronic health record. You will work with Laboratory Services, IT, and vendors to support middleware and LIS/EHR interfaces, assist with connectivity troubleshooting, and help maintain standardized configurations and workflows across sites. Your contribution will be essential to ensuring that clinicians receive timely and accurate POC results wherever care is delivered. WellSpan Health promotes a culture of teamwork, innovation, and professional growth. As part of this environment, you will be encouraged to pursue continuing education, maintain professional certification, and participate in projects that advance POC testing and laboratory practice. You will work in a mix of clinical and laboratory settings, with potential travel between system locations as needed to support bedside testing and staff training. To succeed in this position, you should bring a strong foundation in clinical laboratory science, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with a wide range of healthcare professionals. You should be comfortable working independently, prioritizing multiple demands, and taking initiative in a fast-paced environment. Your work will directly impact patient outcomes and support WellSpan Health’s mission of improving the health of the communities we serve. WellSpan Health offers a supportive and inclusive workplace, with opportunities for career advancement, comprehensive training, and meaningful engagement in patient care. A competitive compensation package is complemented by a robust benefits program that typically includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, retirement savings options such as a 401k, and other resources to support your well-being and professional development.
