Laboratory Assistants are responsible for performing a wide variety of research laboratory tasks and experiments, making detailed observations, analyzing data and interpreting results. They maintain laboratory equipment and inventory levels for laboratory supplies. They may also write reports, summaries, and protocols regarding experiments. A Laboratory Assistant performs limited troubleshooting and calibration of instruments.

Physical Demands and Efforts
The physical demands described here are representative of those that could be expected of an employee in the performance of the essential functions of this job. Incumbent will be expected to alternate between sitting, standing, and walking within and between departments for an entire shift; up to 8 hours or more a day. Must be capable of communicating with others both verbally and in writing; will be expected to use hands or fingers to manipulate equipment other than a keyboard. May occasionally be required to reach below and/or above waist level and below and/or above shoulders or head. Light to heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) is required at times.
Vision Requirements
Vision requirements include close, distance, and midrange vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus near and far frequently.
Work Environment
The work environment is moderately noisy with running machines, copiers, printer, frequent interruptions and moderate traffic. Laboratory Assistants may be required to work in humid, dry, dusty, cool, or warm environments at times.
