Job Description

Role: Senior Java Backend Developer

Location: Phoenix, Arizona Onsite, 5 days per week

Client: American Express

Employment Type: W2 Only

Required Technical Skills:

• 8+ years of professional software development experience
• Strong hands-on backend development experience with Java, Spring and Spring Boot
• Experience building scalable, distributed and low-latency enterprise applications
• Strong knowledge of REST APIs, JSON, XML, service contracts, integration patterns and API lifecycle practices
• Hands-on experience with Spring Batch, JUnit, JDBC, Gradle/Maven, Jenkins and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience with Kafka or similar event-driven/streaming technologies; Kafka Streams is highly preferred
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, caching, high availability, multithreading and performance optimization
• Experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB and other relational or NoSQL databases
• Experience with Docker, GitHub and deployment automation
• Strong knowledge of automated testing, secure coding and continuous integration practices
• Ability to work through complex and ambiguous technical requirements
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience mentoring engineers while remaining hands-on with architecture, design and development

Preferred Experience:

• Payment systems, real-time transaction platforms, customer account management, reporting platforms or FinTech APIs
• Full-stack development exposure
• Data engineering experience with Python, Hadoop or Spark
• In-memory computing and advanced application performance optimization
• Technical leadership, solution design facilitation and end-to-end delivery ownership
