General Description: The North Carolina League of Conservation Voters (NCLCV) is a statewide advocacy and political organization, working to protect North Carolina’s environment and communities for over 50 years by holding public officials accountable for enacting policies that protect the health of our citizens and our environment. NCLCV’s mission is to advocate for sound environmental policies and elect pro-environmental candidates who will champion strong environmental protections, and who understand that North Carolina’s unique natural environment plays an integral role in our economy and quality of life. Along with our sister organization, NCLCV Foundation (NCLCVF), we work to engage North Carolinians in the democratic process to protect our communities and our environment.

As a senior member of the NCLCV team, reporting to the executive director, the Chief of Staff will serve as a strategic thought partner to Executive Director, translating strategic vision into operational execution. The Chief of Staff will partner closely with other leaders in the organization, bridging gaps and driving alignment across programs, teams, and strategic goals. The Chief of Staff will help create, refine, and implement organizational processes, including team culture, communications, planning, and accountability, to drive efficiency and support our people to achieve our mission. The Chief of Staff should be able to balance high-level strategy and day-to-day operational execution.

● Strategic Execution & Cross-Team Integration

• In partnership with ED and senior leaders, support the management and execution of the strategic plan, including developing metrics and dashboards to track progress.
• Coordinate and drive alignment across programs and teams to support strategic goals.
• Facilitate internal organizational work planning, including implementing systems for setting clear expectations for all team members, tracking progress towards strategic goals (including creating dashboards), and troubleshooting as needed.
• Support Executive Director and Development Director to ensure long-term financial sustainability in face of changing funding landscape.
• Translate high-level priorities into actionable plans, timelines, and measurable outcomes.
• Track organizational and performance metrics across programs.

● Administration, HR, & Operations

• Ensure coordination and organizational effectiveness by managing key internal meetings and agendas, including executing staff retreats.
• Develop and refine internal systems, policies, and practices, including managing cybersecurity and safety initiatives.
• Manage HR functions, including staff recruitment, onboarding, development, benefits, and compliance.
• Enhance coordination and accountability structures across our teams to facilitate information sharing and address organizational silos.
• With Executive Director, ensure we are building and supporting a team culture that is respectful, inclusive, accountable, collaborative, mission-driven, and reflects our commitment to our JEDI principles.
• Support and strengthen financial operations and budgeting process; track and fulfill various reporting requirements.
• Serve as an ambassador and represent the organizations at public facing events, as appropriate.

● Board Support/Engagement

• With Executive Director, serve as a key liaison and point of contact to the Board of Directors, support and staff key board committees, and help set agendas.
• With Executive Director, determine tactical approaches to implement board approved strategies.
• Prepare and organize quarterly board materials.

Qualifications

Work Experience

• 4-6 years of professional experience in non-profit management or operations. Required .
• Proven experience in staff supervision and development. Required .
• Excellent internal communication and team-building skills. Required.
• Strong operational and financial management skills. Required.
• Experience with organizational systems and process improvement. Strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to translate strategic vision into actional plans. Strongly preferred .
• Experience working with cross-functional teams, preferably in a non-profit. Preferred.
• Understanding of 501c3, 501c4, and political organizations. Preferred.
• College degree. Preferred .

Compensation and Conditions : Salary range $85,000-$95,000, commensurate with experience and ability. Able to occasionally work hours in excess of stated office hours to get the job done; ability and willingness to travel. This is a hybrid position based in Raleigh, NC, requiring employees to be on-site Mondays and Tuesdays, and live in state.
