Job Description



The Breast Oncology Pharmacy Specialist is a pharmacist who, through advanced specialized training and substantial clinical experience, has established themselves as the institutional authority in breast oncology pharmacy practice. This position carries significant responsibility for directing all pharmacy-related activities within the breast oncology specialty, including the strategic planning, development, and implementation of clinical systems and services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exercise independent clinical judgment and leadership in all breast oncology pharmacy matters, with direct accountability for clinical outcomes and institutional standards.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve pharmacy systems, protocols, and clinical services specific to breast oncology practice.
  • Serve as the definitive institutional expert and resource for breast oncology pharmacy practice, providing authoritative guidance to clinical teams and other healthcare professionals.
  • Establish and enforce rigorous practice standards that exceed institutional benchmarks for Level II pharmacist performance.
  • Initiate and lead cross-departmental clinical discussions and interventions to resolve complex pharmacy practice issues and drive evidence-based change.
  • Mentor and supervise pharmacy staff and students, ensuring mastery of specialized competencies required for breast oncology pharmacy practice.
  • Conduct applied research and clinical investigations to address critical gaps in breast oncology pharmacy practice, with commitment to publishing findings and contributing to the professional knowledge base.
  • Maintain accountability for reliability, dependability, and professional excellence in all assigned responsibilities.

Qualifications



EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Must hold a degree from an accredited college of pharmacy and must complete a residency training program or have equivalent experience in hospital pharmacy practice.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of pharmacist experience or the equivalent training and experience at another institution, preferred.
  • Must have demonstrated the ability to meet and exceed practice standards set for a Level II pharmacist. (Henry Ford Detroit Hospital Only).
  • Must be able to serve as an institutional authority in a given specialty practice area.
  • Must have demonstrable leadership abilities and exhibit teamwork when working with others.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills which enable him/her to contribute effectively in the dissemination of information to all levels of health care personnel in the institution.
  • Should have a proven research/publication record.
  • Must be qualified to work with pharmacy students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Must have a previous work history of reliability, dependability, and willingness to assume additional responsibilities.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Michigan.
  • If eligible, licensure must be obtained within 30 days of hire; failure to obtain licensure will result in termination of the Pharmacy Specialist position.
