Position Full-Time Auburn Beat Writer This position reports directly to the Publisher and will play a central role in our daily news coverage and long-term growth. Responsibilities The successful candidate will:
  • Cover Auburn football year-round

  • Cover men's basketball and other assigned sports

  • Attend practices, games, press conferences, SEC Media Days, postseason events, and recruiting-related events

  • Develop and maintain trusted sources throughout Auburn athletics

  • Break original news and deliver exclusive reporting

  • Write multiple stories daily under deadline

  • Produce game previews, recaps, feature stories, analysis, and enterprise reporting

  • Produce premium subscriber-exclusive content

  • Assist with recruiting and transfer portal coverage

  • Generate story ideas independently

  • Contribute to newsletters and breaking news alerts

  • Participate in podcasts, YouTube videos, and live broadcasts

  • Engage professionally with subscribers on premium message boards

  • Help grow our audience through outstanding journalism and innovative storytelling

Qualifications Ideal candidates will possess:
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)

  • At least three years of experience covering college athletics or professional sports

  • Excellent AP-style writing and editing skills

  • Ability to write quickly without sacrificing accuracy

  • Experience cultivating sources and breaking news

  • Strong interviewing and reporting skills

  • Outstanding organizational and time-management abilities

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously

  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, holidays, and travel during football season

  • Comfortable appearing on podcasts, live streams, and video productions

  • Experience using WordPress or similar content management systems

  • Strong understanding of social media publishing and audience engagement

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience covering recruiting or college football

  • Photography and basic video editing skills

  • Familiarity with SEO best practices and digital audience growth
